2019 | Under.Line

#intermedia #The Hauge

A visual translation of Vee Leong's theatre text, Fragments of Stones and Gold (2014). Originally developed from the concept of portrait and still life, the text examines the ideological notion of failure in the neo-liberalist society. Under.Line is a group exhibition in which Vee revisits the text by the act of drawing and sound; the dramatic world is turned into a life of lines that strives and trembles. Voices shriek and murmur under the lines. In the course of keeping themselves straight, the lines deform and defy. It is the erroneous lines that form an everyday record of people struggling for a living; the modern offerings, if not sacrifices to the deity of prosperity.

Exhibition at Foo Tak Building (HK) and Quartair Contemporary Art Initiative (The Hague); curated by Jamsen Law; sound work collaboration with TM Li (Taiwan)
