Premiered in March 2019 in Hong Kong, Ballads of Expulsion is an original theatre work curated and directed by Vee Leong, with text written by two musician-activists, Wong Hin-yan and Snow Huang in Hong Kong and Taiwan. Borrowing the title from Saskia Sassen’s Expulsions: Brutality and Complexity in the Global Economy, it has taken one year of exchanges and workshops between the two commissioned writers, the director, and the dramaturg, Betty Chen (Taiwan) to conceive this so-called “mix-tape” of the collective experiences of social movements in the two regions.​
